Should artists and curators be friends? This is an ongoing debate among friends (some who happen to be curators). My cards on the table: I am generally open to friendship in all contexts. And friendship isn’t a prerequisite or requirement to working together either. Sometime simple transactions are clean, boundaried, and helpful. And I think there is a depth that happens through friendship that is beautiful. So I like both options as ways of working. Some curators said that it is narcissistic of artists to want to be friends with curators. What do you think? Any recs for thinking with this question?
