Tonight we saw Didę by Marcel Gbeffa and Sarah Trouche at Columbia College in Chicago. It was one of the most stunning performances I've seen in a long time. Often, when sculpture is used in dance, it feels like an afterthought or overly precious; not with Didę, where each sculpture was a fully considered, active part of the energy and movement of the performance. The link contains an interview with the co-creators, for more context. I feel so grateful that we got to see this for the one night that it was performed here. Check it out, if/when its in your city!
